now everyone knows that President Bush's personal chef is Filipino. i've known about it. since the Clinton days. problem is, i have always had this picture in my mind that she looked like a plump old woman who cooks nothing but Filipino comfort food (think Mama Sita). boy, was i totally wrong. first, she's not an old lady. she's a great looking youngish lady who is very personable and highly educated. her name is Cris Comerford and she cooks gourmet meals. incidentally, Cris is short for Cristeta. so there, i was wrong about my assumption of her.
on another note... i did get my usual flowers today. i commented over at PinoyMomsNetwork how i always get flowers on my birthday, on valentine's day, and on our wedding anniversary. that's aside from the usual presents. of course, i've come to expect them but now, the excitement is over what colors do i get this time?

this time, i got two dozen assorted ones. there was a time a got all purple ones (my favorite color, isn't it obvious) but hubby says they look drab and dead. one time i got peach-colored ones. not a fan of the color but they were surprisingly beautiful. in any case, i love it that hubby is thoughtful enough to give me these regularly.
for the 5-year old's school valentine's celebration, i had to make goody bags for each of his classmates. i wanted to be creative so i set out to stamp each child's name on the label. not. it would've taken hours to finish if i did that so i resorted to hand writing them instead.

HAPPY VALENTINE'S DAY, PURPLEGIRL!!
You are such a super momma, those are such beautiful goody bags. I resorted to store bought stuff, because I totally forgot until I got off work last night, and had to run to the store to riffle through the picked over valentine's stuff :(
thanks, Jmom! would you believe they were also store-bought? i got these $0.99 chocolates, placed them in cellophane goody bags ($2.49 for 25 pieces) then made my own name tags. quite easy!
I love the assorted colors. Roses are so expensive here.
Hi purplegirl! I'm so joyous to know your desire to meet up with me and cousin girlie. Thank you for the frequent visit and the comments. I hope to see you sooner.
You're such a creative lady aside from being a good cook, How I wish I can cook like you. Re- the white house cook, I'm so proud being a Pinay. Belated Happy Vee day and can I link you up?
Hi, Purplegirl! Good you got your flowers..
That Filipina White House chef actually hails from Dagupan City in Pangasinan. She comes from a family of restaurateurs. :)
Hey there! It is awesome a Pinay is heading the White House. I remember getting excited when Cris was named the Presidential Chef. Her menus are creative and show much better than others who were considered more "highly trained" than she was. Your son's baggies look professionally done. Isn't it funny how demonstrating a little creativity can make something simple great?

Ms. Comerford is not the personal chef to George and Laura Bush. She is the White House Executive Chef. However, another filipino, Ariel De Guzman, was personal chef to George and Barbara Bush.
